Larry Bird Leads Celtics to 1986 Playoff Success

Boston Sweeps Bulls, Defeats Hawks in Eastern Conference

1986 NBA Playoffs

The 1986 NBA playoffs marked another successful postseason run for the Boston Celtics, led by legendary forward Larry Bird. Bird's impressive performance played a crucial role in their dominant victories during the Eastern Conference playoffs.

In the first round, the Celtics faced off against the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan. Despite Jordan's impressive rookie season, Boston proved their experience and talent, sweeping the series in three convincing games.

The Celtics faced a tougher challenge in the semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks. The series extended to five games, but the Celtics ultimately prevailed, winning Game 5 on their home court. Bird continued to dominate, averaging 24 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game in the series.

Boston's success in the Eastern Conference playoffs set them up for a matchup with the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals. The Finals series was a back-and-forth affair, but the Celtics ultimately fell to the Rockets in six games. However, Bird's exceptional performance throughout the playoffs solidifies his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history.
