Hockey at the 2024 Olympics
Ice Hockey is Coming Back to France in 2024
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has announced that ice hockey will be played at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
This will be the second time that ice hockey has been played at the Summer Olympics since it was removed from the Olympic program after the 1992 Games in Albertville, France. The sport was brought back to the Olympics for the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan, and has been a part of the Games since, despite fears about the costs of staging an ice hockey tournament during the Summer Games.
The 2024 Olympic hockey tournament will be held at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, which has a capacity of over 15,000 spectators. The tournament will feature 12 men's teams and 8 women's teams, with the top eight teams in each gender qualifying for the quarterfinals.
The United States is the defending champion in both the men's and women's tournaments. The U.S. men's team has won three of the last four Olympic gold medals, while the U.S. women's team has won two of the last three gold medals.
Other contenders for the gold medal this time around include Canada, Russia, Finland, and Sweden. The Russian will be competing at the Olympics as the Russian Olympic Committee, as the result of a doping scandal that led to a ban on the Russian team from competing under its own flag at the 2018 Olympics.
The 2024 Olympic hockey tournament is expected to be one of the most competitive in history. With so many top teams in the world vying for a medal, it is sure to be an exciting tournament to watch.
