Social Security Announces New Compassionate Allowances for Severe Conditions

Today, Social Security Acting Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi announced the addition of 12 new conditions to the Compassionate Allowances (CAL) program, bringing the total number of covered conditions to 287.
The CAL program is designed to expedite the disability application process for individuals with severe medical conditions that meet specific criteria. These conditions are so serious that they make it impossible to perform substantial gainful activity, and they are typically easy to diagnose.
The 12 new conditions added to the CAL program are:
- Adrenal cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Bladder cancer, invasive, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Brain cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Cervical cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Colon cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Esophageal cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Gallbladder cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Kidney cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Liver cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Lung cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Ovarian cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
- Pancreatic cancer, with distant metastases or inoperable
