Torrential Rain Floods Dubai, Diverts Airport Arrivals

City-State Hit by Year's Rainfall in a Day

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Dubai International Airport diverted incoming flights on Tuesday as torrential rains battered the city-state, leading to widespread flooding and disruptions.

Nearly 4 Inches of Rain in 12 Hours

According to reports, nearly 4 inches (100 mm) of rain fell over the course of just 12 hours on Tuesday. The heavy downpours caused major flooding in parts of the city, including roads, homes, and even the airport tarmac.

Schools across the United Arab Emirates were closed due to the severe weather conditions, as authorities advised residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Thunder and Lightning

The rains were accompanied by thunder and lightning, which further intensified the flooding. Videos circulating online showed submerged vehicles and overwhelmed storm drains.

Dubai's major international airport was forced to divert incoming flights to other neighboring airports due to the unsafe conditions on the tarmacs. The airport management confirmed that operations were disrupted but later resumed once the worst of the storm had passed.

Damage and Cleanup

The heavy rainfall has caused significant damage to infrastructure and property in Dubai. Emergency crews are working to clear flooded areas and restore services.

The local government has advised residents to exercise caution and be aware of potential hazards such as downed power lines and slippery roads.
