Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Program: Multinational Collaboration for Enhanced Defense
Joint Development and Procurement
In early 2020, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia joined forces to initiate a comprehensive joint development program for the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS). This program aims to enhance the defense capabilities of these Baltic nations through the procurement of a standardized armored vehicle platform.
Finland's Acquisition of CAVS
Finland initiated the production and delivery process for 66 CAVS vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2023. This acquisition forms part of Finland's defense strategy and its role in the CAVS program. The Finnish Defense Forces have selected the Patria 6x6 armored vehicle for this project.
Patria's Involvement
Patria, a Finnish defense and aerospace company, has secured a firm contract to provide 91 Patria 6x6 CAVS vehicles to Finland. This contract also includes an option to acquire an additional 70 vehicles, further strengthening Finland's defense capabilities.
Framework Agreement for Joint Production
In August 2023, Finland, Latvia, and Patria signed a framework agreement to establish the production and supply of 66 armored vehicles for the joint CAVS program. This agreement ensures that the three nations will collaborate on the procurement and development of these vehicles. By working together on the CAVS program, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia are demonstrating their commitment to strengthening their collective defense capabilities and promoting regional cooperation. The acquisition of the Patria 6x6 armored vehicle will play a vital role in enhancing their preparedness and readiness to respond to potential threats.
